The 16th-century Château, its garden and forest, welcomes you from May to October, in spacious guest rooms with 18th-century furnishings. You may also come across artists in residence in the outbuildings.
Situated 10 minutes from Ambert and 30 minutes from La Chaise-Dieu, it's ideal for cultural visits and nature walks.
Château du Bouy was built around 1500, on the site of an earlier castle to which a 13th-century tower bears witness. A Gallo-Roman stele suggests the existence of a Gallo-Roman villa on the site. The buildings, converted into a farm in the 19th century, are surrounded by a flower garden, a vegetable garden and meadows overlooking 40 hectares of forest. The period furniture collected to restore the building as close as possible to its 16th-century state will take you back in time to the manor's heyday. Although the beds have 18th century canopies, the bedding is brand new. The owner will be delighted to tell you all about the château's history, decoding the palimpsest of its walls.
Just a few minutes from the village of Champétières and a 10-minute drive from Ambert, in the heart of the Livradois Forez Regional Nature Park, you can explore the surrounding countryside and discover typical rural architecture, find traces of old mills, discover a jewel of a Romanesque church, or get lost in the Livradois forests and pick mushrooms. In Ambert, the producers' stores and lively Thursday market will help you appreciate the local crafts and products (especially the cheeses), while a stop at the Richard de Bas mill will give you an idea of the industrial history of the valleys of the 2 massifs. After crossing the Ambert valley, you'll hike along the Hautes Chaumes du Forez from one jasserie to the next, where the Fourme d'Ambert cheese was made, and which some farmers have revived. A little further afield, you can wander through the remarkable towns of La Chaise-Dieu, Brioudes, Issoire and Le Puy-en-Velay, and visit châteaux far more imposing than the Bouy! (Villeneuve-Lembron, Haulteribe, La Bâtie d'Urfé, etc.).
