Natural environments parks and gardens

The Livradois-Forez stretches across a mosaic of varied landscapes that are home to exceptional biodiversity. This area, classified as a Regional Nature Park, is a haven for a multitude of animal and plant species, thanks to its diverse and well-preserved ecosystems.

The Hautes-Chaumes of Forez, with its vast moorlands and tundra-like atmosphere, is an emblematic example of the natural wealth of the Livradois-Forez. These open spaces, dotted with heather, are home to a wide variety of wildlife. They offer unique panoramic views of the Auvergne volcanoes and the Alps. The peat bogs, meanwhile, are wetlands that are essential for water regulation and the conservation of rare plants such as carnivorous sundews. If you’re lucky enough to wander through ancient forests like those in the Comté, you’ll find yourself in the heart of a haven of peace, an ideal habitat for numerous species of birds and mammals. The gorges and rivers, such as those of the Dore, add a dynamic dimension to the landscape, providing habitats for amphibians and aquatic insects.

By exploring these natural environments, visitors are invited to reconnect with nature and discover the wild beauty of the Livradois-Forez, while helping to preserve this precious and fragile environment.
