Take the road to careers and discover the crafts of Livradois-Forez

The Route des Métiers of Livradois-Forez is a unique journey to the heart of the crafts and heritage of this sumptuous Auvergne region. Created in 1987, the route’s mission is to highlight the traditional crafts and cultural heritage of the Livradois-Forez region. It offers visitors the chance to discover the rich craft and cultural heritage in an unusual way, at your own pace.

Each of the members of the Route des Métiers makes its own unique contribution to the overall experience. Visitors can expect to visit crafts people, discover sometimes unusual museums, exploreancient châteaux and meet local producers. Each stage of the Route is an opportunity to discover and appreciate local know-how, from traditional crafts to modern production methods.

La Route des Métiers : Local producers and nature's bounty

Visit the “Les Sens en Herbe” farm or the Terres d’Alchimie distillery to explore the world of organic essential oils and hydrolats. Take part in a 1? hour guided tour, which will take you through the fields of medicinal plants, the distillery and meet the animals. Learn the secrets of distillation and how to use the products. As for Florent, from the Source Distillerie in Chalmazel, he invites you to discover his range of artisanal spirits, flavoured mustards and honey, all made from wild mountain plants.

Why not take the opportunity to visit the beekeepers of the Livradois-Forez region? Lilo Nectar, at an altitude of 900m, offers tours of the honey house and honey tastings. As well as offering tours, the Cité des abeilles has also set up beeswax workshops. From July 2024, La Casa d’art will open its doors. Here you can discover temporary exhibitions by local artists.

La Route des Métiers : craftsmen and traditional skills

There’s something fascinating about traditional skills. You realise this every time you walk through the door of a craftsman’s workshop. That’s what we’re offering you on this tour. Knock on the door of Robert David cutlery or l’Atelier la bonne trempe. You’ll be able to discover the techniques involved in making a fine knife made in Auvergne. And why not try your hand at a trade that has become extremely rare today: the “chantourneur” (knife maker)? You can’t leave the Livradois-Forez without taking home a beautiful object (made from a regional species of wood) from theAtelierdu bois chantourné.

La Route des métiers : Castles and gardens of Livradois-Forez

Are you a history buff? La route des métiers offers you the chance to visit châteaux that will transport you back to different eras. Starting in spring, Château de Vollore, Château d’Aulteribe, Martinanches and Montmorin will be offering guided tours of the castle and its exterior, so you can learn a little more about the daily lives of the nobles of Livradois-Forez.

Take a break at the Garden for the Earth in Arlanc
